First Blog post

My name is Isabel Alvarado and I am currently a student at Brandman University, and will be graduating in January 20100.

Through the years I have found many different things I am passionate about, but It wasnt until 3 years ago that I found the field I want to work in for the rest of my life. The non profit field is amazing, not only am I passionate about it but going home every day knowing i really did help someone is such a great feeling, I cant imagine doing anything else.

I worked for the American Heart Association for two years as the coordinator of a program called Conozca Su Corazon/Search your Heart in Orange County, California. I implemented this program, targeting the Latino community in orange County in schools, churches and community centers all over Orange County and loved it. I loved every aspect of it; finding funding, working with the community, training health promoters and most of all helping people.

During this time, I also had the opportunity to collaborate with NUPAC ( Nutrition and Physical Activity Coalition) in Orange County and with numerous hospitals such as Hoag, and Mission Hospital. Having a voice in the different measures being taken to avoid obesity, heart disease and stroke was amazing. Once I graduate I will be looking for another job in the non profit field, so I can continue to help.
